Actara is an insecticide from Syngenta containing thiamethoxam, a second-generation neonicotinoid. It is systemic: the plant takes it up and moves it through the leaves, so sucking insects die when they feed. It controls aphids, whiteflies, jassids, thrips, mealybugs, leafhoppers and some weevils. It works at low use rates on vegetables, rice, sugarcane, mango and other crops. It can be sprayed on leaves or applied to the soil.
