Sniper 1000 EC is an organophosphate insecticide containing dichlorvos (DDVP) 1000 g/L, sold here in a 1 litre bottle for farm use. It kills insects fast on contact, by stomach action and through its vapour. Farmers use it outdoors against field insects on crops and as a fumigant in empty farm stores and animal houses. It is for agricultural use only: NAFDAC does not allow dichlorvos for household use or for applying directly to food or grains.

How to use

Always mix and apply at the rate on the label for your crop and pest. Mix the measured quantity into clean water in a knapsack sprayer, shake well and spray in the early morning or evening when it is calm. Do not spray when rain is expected within a few hours. Observe the waiting period on the label before harvest, and keep people and animals away from treated areas until the spray has dried and any vapour has cleared.

What it should not be used for

• Not for household use. Do not use it indoors in living areas or bedrooms.
• Not for food preservation. NAFDAC warns against applying dichlorvos directly to beans, grains or other food. Washing does not remove the risk.
• Do not use it near fish ponds or water sources, or on flowering crops while bees are active.

NAFDAC rules on dichlorvos

Since 2019, NAFDAC has banned 100ml and smaller packs of dichlorvos and its sale in open markets and supermarkets. Larger packs such as this 1 litre bottle are sold through agrochemical dealers for farm use only.

Safety

• Read and follow the product label before use. The label rate is the legal and correct rate.
• Wear gloves, boots, long sleeves and a face mask or shield when mixing and spraying.
• Do not eat, drink or smoke while spraying. Wash hands and face after use.
• Keep locked away from children, food and animal feed, in the original container.
• Do not wash sprayers or empty containers in streams, wells or fish ponds.
• If anyone swallows it, gets it on the skin or feels unwell after use, go to the nearest hospital immediately and take the label with you.
