How to plant
- Use loose, well-drained, sandy loam soil or grow bags, with plenty of organic matter.
- Sow directly or in seedling trays 2 cm deep. Transplant tray seedlings at 2-3 true leaves, about 2 weeks old, with care for the roots.
- In greenhouses, space about 40-50 cm between plants in double rows. Train each plant up a string or trellis.
- Do not mix with seed-type cucumbers that need bees in a closed greenhouse.
Care after planting
- Give steady water, ideally by drip irrigation. Dry spells cause bent or bitter fruit.
- Feed little and often through drip, or apply fertilizer every 2 weeks.
- Remove side shoots on the lower stem as advised for greenhouse cucumbers.
- Pick fruits young and often to keep the plant producing.
