How to plant
- Soak seeds in warm water overnight to speed up germination.
- Use well-drained soil with pH about 6.5-7.0. Mix in compost or manure before planting.
- Sow 2-3 seeds per hole about 2 cm deep. Space about 60 cm between rows and 30-40 cm between plants. Thin to one or two plants.
- Plant from the start of the rains, or any time with irrigation.
Care after planting
- Do not overwater. Let the soil dry a little between waterings; okra roots rot in waterlogged soil.
- Mulch to keep moisture and reduce weeds.
- Apply NPK about 3 weeks after emergence. Calcium nitrate can help growth and pod quality.
- Pick pods every 1-2 days while tender. Old pods become tough and slow new pod set. Wear gloves and long sleeves.
